Who’s telling the truth: President Ali Saleh or the ‘Ulema’ Association of Yemen?
President Ali Abdullah Saleh met a delegation from the ‘Ulema’ Association of Yemen (comprised of their head and others) on 29th September, at the end of their conference in which they ‘crowned’ him and declared demonstrations to be haram. At the same place and on the same day, President Ali Saleh met with reporters from the Washington Post and Time Magazine, so that he could tell them, shamelessly, that “the constitution guarantees the right of expression and demonstration”; this was reported in the official government newspaper At-Thawrah (edition number 17125).
Ali Saleh has thus denied that which the ‘Ulema’ Association of Yemen put together in their conference for his sake; and for which they made the effort to travel to tell him personally. So is what Saleh said to reporters for external consumption, and the announcement of the ‘Ulema’ Association for internal consumption?
If the Yemeni constitution is Islamic as is claimed, how does it guarantee a right which is prohibited by the Sharee’ah?! In fact, the Yemeni constitution is like the constitutions of other Islamic countries. It has been produced in imitation of Western constitutions, and gives no attention to the Sharee’ah except in words like “Islam is the religion of the State” and “the Islamic Sharee’ah is the source of all legislation”.
In the past, the question was which should take precedence: the Sharee’ah or the constitution? They used to say, deceitfully, that “the constitution is Islamic and does not contradict the Sharee’ah”. Today it has become clear that the constitution is on one ground, the Sharee’ah is on another – and the ‘Ulema’ Association of Yemen are on yet another!
Indeed the Muslims in Yemen today suffer from the same hardships that affect other Muslim countries. That is the deception being practised: to present Western capitalist thoughts in Islamic clothing, and using fatwas to justify taking them and making the people accept it. However, now the people are quick to uncover the fraud and return everything to its basis. They are holding firm to their deen and they reject everything else, even if its external appearance is made pretty and attractive due to the malign use of Islam from the ruler and his scholars.
Those who practise this deception are playing a dangerous game, to make the Muslims think that Islam is not capable of addressing the new problems that emerge in life and so confidence in Islam. Based on that they adopt from the West, which believes in separating religion from life, and justify this with Islamic clothing, and this is misleading the people and evil trickery.
Indeed, the Muslims today are in a good situation, and they now know, when they research an issue to understand the rule of Islam on it, that the question does not depend on the word of so and so, or an elite, no matter how senior they are. Rather it is contained in the Islamic evidences and is connected to research and the method of deduction. They know that Allah loves them as He made them Muslims and protected them from misguidance by protecting His Book. The need today is indeed great to return to the Book of Allah in order to judge by it in their lives, and to bring their scattered numbers together in the Khilafah Rashidah state, which will provide protection and for which the people are in great need so that it may remove the dominance of the Kuffar and the treachery of the rulers, and the subjugation of the world.
It was narrated in Musnad Ahmad, that RasoolAllah (sall Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said,
“Prophethood will be amongst you for as long as Allah wills, then He will raise it, when He wills that He should raise it. Then there will be Khilafah on the minhaj of Prophethood, and it will be for as long as Allah wills, then He will raise it, when Allah wills that He should raise it. Then there will be mulkan ‘aadhan (biting rule), and it will be for as long as Allah wills, then He will raise it, when He wills that He should raise it. Then there will be mulkan jabriyyah (forceful rule), and it will be for as long as Allah wills, then He will raise it, when He wills that He should raise it. Then there will be Khilafah on the minhaj of Prophethood, and then he remained silent.”
