Birmingham, Saturday 3rd February 2007 - Dr Imran Waheed, media representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, was invited as a panelist of community leaders to address a packed meeting of the Muslim community in Birmingham. The meeting, held at Birmingham Central Mosque, followed days of media speculation following the arrest of nine local Muslim men in relation to allegations of terrorism.

Dr Waheed reminded the community that despite the wave of media propaganda there was a great need to remain united and not be divided into so called 'moderates' or 'extremists'. He explained how the Government had a history of playing politics with security and that there was evidence pointing to briefings from Whitehall to divert attention from the political scandals facing the Government. He warned that the events may yet be exploited by politicians to introduce further draconian measures and criticised those who continuously seek to deny the link between the brutal occupation of Iraq and instability and violence. Addressing the audience, Dr Waheed, said, "We will continue to live with our neighbours and will speak the truth against injustice and oppression, at home or abroad, through political means as taught to us by Islam."

Other speakers at the event included local Birmingham councillor, Salma Yaqoob, former Guantanamo detainee and spokesman for Cageprisoners, Moazzam Begg and Alum Rock businessman, Tariq Mahmood.
