Over the last few months the credibility and integrity of the British broadcasting media has been called to question. Programme makers for ITV, GMTV, BBC and this week C4 (Dispatches) have all recently been accused of "faking it". This week's accusations against a Channel 4 programme broadcast in January called "Undercover Mosque" are grave indeed. They come not from Muslims themselves, but the West Midlands Police. When asked to prosecute the preachers shown to have made inciteful and racist comments on the programme, the Police came to the conclusion that the programme makers or editors had essentially cut and paste speeches and take them out of context. The Police have now referred the matter to the broadcast regulator OFCOM to investigate.

the political and theological spectrum, have come together in an
unprecedented way to formulate and issue a statement in response to the
decision to confer a knighthood upon Salman Rushdie. The statement,
which describes the knighthood as a "deliberate provocation and insult
to the 1.5 billion Muslims around the world", is being printed in
today's Guardian newspaper.

A MUSLIM COMMUNITY RESPONSE TO SOME OF THE PROPOSED ANTI-TERRORISM MEASURES
1. As members of the Muslim community the undersigned individuals and organisations feel the need to communicate our view regarding some of the recently proposed antiterrorism measures in the aftermath of the London bombings, and address statements made by the Prime Minister in the past few weeks. The British Muslim community has always been a law-abiding community and all its endeavours to create a more just society have been entirely peaceful. We fear that recent events are being exploited by some sections in society to demonise legitimate Islamic values and beliefs and hence consider it appropriate to make the following observations:
