Benazir Bhutto's Assassination is a Sign of Pakistan's Deepening Political Crisis Print E-mail
Thursday, 27 December 2007
Today's bomb blast in Rawalpindi, which lead to the death of Pakistan's former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, is a sign of the deepening political quagmire into which Pakistan is descending. Over the past few months there have been worsening problems of law and order, with huge civilian casualties not only because of road side bombs but mainly because of the violence from the Musharraf regime. The use of incidents such as today's to crackdown in Waziristan, Swat and the Lal Masjid has left thousands dead, and only deepened the unrest. Coupled with this external players have used political violence in Pakistan over many years for their own ends.

Pakistan's entrenchment in the US war on terror, sectarian conflicts and the lack of any real political alternative have all contributed to this turmoil which cannot be resolved under the current status quo. Musharraf bears a lot of responsibility for bringing the situation this far, but secular governments in the past have inflamed different types of lawlessness under their watch. Trust between the current ruling class and the people is non-existent, with no confidence that they will bring any solution. Furthermore, as long as Pakistan's politics is more influenced by Washington and London than it is by its own people there is no hope that violence and instability within the country will diminish.

The only hope for Pakistan to bring order out of this chaos is the establishment of the Islamic Khilafah. It will end Pakistan's involvement in Washington's war on terror; it will stop the killing of its own citizens; it will unify all the provinces of Pakistan. Islam is the only thing that commands people's respect. At this tense time, and at the potential brink of chaos, our prayers are with the people in Pakistan, but we must focus our exclusively political efforts on providing a new leadership and new system as the real alternative to reverse this ever-deepening decline.

jk: A step in the right direction...
Benazir was a remnant of the british colonialist legacy in Pak (and the rest of the muslim world to a degree). A western education that left her out of touch with her own Islamic ideology, its civilisational heritage and the Pakistani people resulting in her extreme position of calling for western emulation in contrast with those “extremists” she wanted to fight – both the antithesis of each other.

What maybe has not been understood in this whole debate is that each region needs its own model of governance that reflect its culture, history, religion and civilisation - trying to universalise normative values such as secularism, democracy, human rights, freedom etc and impose them on societies that are trying to remove the shackles embedded in all aspects of political and social life from their colonialist days is naive and ill-conceived. These societies have a unique ideology that historically worked for them, was forcibly removed from their societies with colonialist adventures, and they now desire to return to it – in the form of a unified, progressive sharia based caliphate system that brings the ill-conceived nation states together without borders and boundaries. This process is being hampered by external forces, primarily the US, who seeks her own interests which in the long run is going to bring about the famous clash of civilisations unless its direction changes. The push for elections will achieve nothing - structural changes are required in the system not a change of faces who will maintain the status quo...

Who from the people was calling for elections in Pakistan?

The push for this has come from the UK and US. Even now when the country is in crisis, they call for democracy and elections - as if its some cure all for bombs and killing.

Maybe if the call was to end cooperation in the war on terror, and to stop Mush from bombing Pakistanis we would get somewhere.

Md. Shamim: High time for realization
Assalam dear brothers and sisters in Islam. I am from Bangladesh. The situation here same as Pakistan. The Prophet(PBUH)has been dishonoured by a local newspaper and police charged batton on the demonstration of Prophet lovers during Ramadan, the price of essentials beyond the reach of general people, and the huge unemployment have failed the secular country. this secular country neither honour the belief of people nor it ensure the basic need of the people. so this is the high time to realise about the true solution and that is KHILAFAH.

Mohammed Naseer: The Khilafah State is on the Horizon.....
The great game between America & Britain reached its pinnacle before the assasination of Bhutto in Afghanistan when British UN officials were expelled from Afghanistan. Britain was working on taking Pakistan, Afghanistan and India out of the sphere of American influence. What we will see is this rivalry heating up considerably.

The time for the Khilahah State is fast approaching and the world is ripe for a change, both Muslims and Non-Muslims are hungry for such a State to shine its light to envelope this Dark world lead by Political Systems which debase Humanity beneath the levels of Barbarian Societies.

Even though the world may seem to be falling apart around us - The future is bright, the future is Khilafah :)

Nisar Deen: Enough is enough... Time For Khilafah
What more are we waiting for? From one murder to another, attack after attack, outside powers controlling our politics, traitors killing the Ummah, a deepening crisis!

Surely there is light after darkness, ease after hardship, a new dawn... surely it's time for Islam to lead us out of this nightmare!

Dear brothers & sisters, don't be of those who watched & waited until Allah swt took them and they regretted the life they lived. Be of those who analysed, realised, and maximised their efforts for the coming Khilafah.

majjer: Extremism
The peoples voice has been strangled by Musharraf.
The choice of a leader has been usurped by America.
The people are given no hope and turn to hoplessness and extremism.

No more going back to a failed democracy and dictators, but forward to a news dawn, a new system and a new leadership. Khilafah.

Arfan: Mr
Assalamu alaykum,

In a time like that when our voice are not represented by the elit and current political parties...Khilafah is indeed into our mind, but what can really be done when even people who did not represent us are killed violently in order to leave the way to another western puppet ruler?

If this is done to Mrs Butto, who seems to have some type of political support, what would be the fate of any other political party?

Algeria, came in choas a bit like in Pakistan. Civil war broke out a bit like Pakistan to the point where the masses became punished by the all situation. The masses ended by giving up their support to any 'Islamic' parties (and who can blame them after decade of civil war) and turn their hope towards the secular governement...which then enslaved them but at least civil war ended.

I am affraid that such a situation may be the fate of Pakistan, if there is not really people who do have influence into the army and elites.

It seems by observing your party that you do have some type of support...but the question is it enough?

Hopefully you may be one day able to gain enough support to overthrow a regime...inshallah hopefully it would not be too late.

Wassalam,
Your brother in Islam, Arfan

Abu Yusuf: Political change Based Upon Islam
Agreed Muslims in Pakistan, need to start contemplating change from the chaotic and unstable politics that the country has been subjected to for the last 5 decades.

For Muslim Pakistanis it is a time to think about change, the change needs to be political and built upon Islam. Only the establishment of Khilafah can achieve this- I hope that the Muslims of Pakistan realise this and move, sooner rather than later - to avoid the spilling of more blood and the spread of anarchy throughout the nation.
