Alhamdullilah Ta’la the month of Ramadhan, the month of great blessing and reward is upon us.
It is the month that no doubt brings to life the oneness of the Muslim
Ummah. Muslims all over the world respond to the call of Allah (SWT) to
fast. We perform the fast, break the fast, and pray the tarawih and
tahajjud as one Ummah. No other month in the calendar reminds us more
of our oneness as an Ummah. Allah (SWT) tells us in the Quran:
<Verily, this Ummah of yours is a single Ummah, and I am your Lord
and Cherisher: therefore serve Me (and no other).> (TMQ 21:92). Also
<The Believers are but a single brotherhood> (TMQ 49:10).

On 31st August 2007 former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto met with
British Foreign Secretary David Milliband for 45-minutes. Before this
on 26th July Bhutto met Musharraf in Abu Dhabi. Shortly before this
meeting Mr Milliband had visited Islamabad to meet Musharraf. Dawn
Newspaper reported that Mr Milliband’s special adviser Mark Layall
Grant, during his tenure as his country’s High Commissioner in
Pakistan, played the role of a mediator between the president and the
former prime minister, and was said to have been present during the Abu
Dhabi meeting. During an interview with Channel 4 news in August 2007,
when asked about the ongoing negotiations, Bhutto said, "the British
Foreign Office has been very helpful" in brokering the deal. Bhutto is
soon expected to visit the USA to discuss matters with Zalmay
Khalilzad, current US Ambassador to the UN and formerly to Afghanistan
and Iraq, and her point of contact in Washington. All this dealing and
doubling-dealing betrays a desperate attempt to prop up a failing
regime, hated by its people but loved by governments in the west.

In the House of Commons this week, the former Home Secretary, John
Reid, confirmed what for some time has been an open secret – that
despite the pressure on the UK government to ban Hizb ut-Tahrir from
dictators in the Muslim world, like President Musharraf and President
Karimov, there has been no evidence whatsoever to link Hizb ut-Tahrir
to terrorism or violence.

Palestine is the location of the third most blessed masjid in Islam -
Al Aqsa - the location of al-Isra and al-Miraj. It is the location
where Salahadeen defeated the crusaders. This week it has witnessed
further shame and defilement. By engaging in unjustifiable violence,
factions on both sides in Palestine have readily sacrificed the unity
of Muslims at the altar of bloody revenge and short term political
expediency. They have handed a blank cheque to the Israeli occupiers
and their international allies to further engage in their divide and
rule strategy across the Muslim world. Within hours of the U.S. puppet
Mahmood Abbas announcing his so-called emergency government, the EU,
Israel and the US have all rushed to embrace him, capitalising on the
disunity amongst Palestinians.

Only the Khilafah can deliver the Rule of Law
The tragic loss of life in Karachi in May at the hands of the Pakistani
government in collaboration with its MQM allies sadly epitomises
Pakistan’s condition as it approaches the anniversary of its sixtieth
year of ‘independence.' The division of Pakistan in 1971, the
deteriorating standoff with the Indian backed regime in Kabul, the
abandonment of Kashmir, the imprisonment of Dr A.Q. Khan, the callous
slaughter of citizens in Waziristan and now the dismissal of the Chief
Justice of Pakistan have all contributed to the current depression
Pakistan faces. Alongside this, there is endemic corruption, the
failure to distribute wealth to the poorest in society, a politicised
military and judiciary and of course a subservient foreign policy that
would make an American politician blush. All of this is underpinned by
the absence of any kind of a rule of law throughout Pakistan’s
military.

This week is the fortieth anniversary of the 1967 six day war. Renewed focus has arisen on how to solve one of the world’s most intractable problems. The history of the Palestinian conflict is one of tears, sacrifice and controversy. It is clear that despite 59 years having passed, Israelis and Palestinians are as far apart not just on the specifics of any future settlement but on the historical narrative.

14th May 2007
Dear Mrs Kelly,
In an article in the New Statesman on 9th April 2007 you wrote that it
was now "time for a British version of Islam". You announced "an action
plan to help tackle the violent extremism in our midst", outlining
measures to train Imams to "take on violent extremists' messages",
ensure that madrassahs teach citizenship and regulate mosques through a
new role for the Charity Commission. Earlier, on the 5th of April 2007,
at a speech at the Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre in London, you said
that the "Government will be developing a plan for supporting
madrassahs everywhere to put citizenship on their agenda." You also
announced the funding of a new Faith and Social Cohesion Unit within
the Charity Commission which would "work with religious institutions,
including mosques and madrassahs, and help them to understand the
benefits of registration." In December 2006, Tony Blair threatened that
there would be "no excuse for madrassahs not meeting their legal
requirements and they will be enforced vigorously." In October 2006,
you announced that in the future the "strategy of funding and
engagement must shift significantly towards those organisations that
are taking a proactive leadership role in tackling extremism and
defending our shared values."

On the 9 April 2007, the New Statesman magazine carried an article by
Secretary of State for Communities Ruth Kelly, titled 'Time for a
British version of Islam'. It followed a speech she made the same week
on the same subject. She spelled out plans for the Muslim community in
Britain. Kelly’s arguments are not new. They have been policy ever
since David Blunkett was Home Secretary. In December 2006 Tony Blair
made a speech mentioning the very same policies. The policies that they
hope will lead to this ‘new’ version of Islam can be summarised in the
following ways:

On 3 December 2006, Jenny McCartney wrote a comment for the Daily Telegraph titled 'The hidden truth of the veil: it's all politics' wherin she claimed the niqab is a political statement to achieve the aim of "the persistent agenda of a minority of Islamic fundamentalists to emphasise difference and push the boundaries of secular society".
In response Dr Nazreen Nawaz, womens media representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, responded with the following letter:

Nowadays there are around five thousand of our male and female members
in prisons of Uzbekistan. The conditions in prisons do not differ from
one another. All prisons prohibit prayers (the morning prayer in
particular) and the suhur (dawn meal during the month of Ramadan),
punish our members by locking them into disciplinary cells and solitary
confinement for up to 6 months. Our members are forced to ask for the
President's pardon by severe beatings with batons and other types of
torture. As a consequence of the torture, five members held in Navoi
prison, attempted to commit suicide, but luckily, the attempts were
unsuccessful. Several other members held in Zarafshan UYa 64/48 prison
were poisoned through their food and hospitalised. One of them -
Shukrulloh from Tashkent - died as a result of this at the beginning of
September 2006. The use of poisoning has also been seen in Zangiota UYa
64/1 prison some six months ago. However, thanks to Almighty Allah
(swt), our members uncovered this and did not touch the poisoned food.
