On Monday 17th September, Protom Alo (mainstream national paper in Bangladesh), published cartoons in their supplementary magazine insulting the Prophet Muhammad (saw) by adding his name to an animal. On Wednesday 19th September, Hizb ut-Tahrir Bangladesh lead Hundreds, protesting outside the National Mosque calling for justice. The following day Protom Alo made a cheap apology. That same evening, yet again they published articles comparing the Holy Ka’abah with a brothel and insulted the Mothers of the Believers (ra) – the wives of the Prophet (saw). Consequently, 20,000 gathered outside the National Mosque after the Friday Prayers and over 10,000 of them joined Hizb ut-Tahrir Bangladesh’s march towards the Protom Alo main office. Police launched a series of brutal attacks but the party and the followers stood their ground.
O Muslims!
How is it that these criminal insults on our beloved Prophet and our
Aqeedah are able to be made in our own Muslim countries? Have we become
so low?
Will we in Britain tolerate this kind of abuse on what is dearest to
us, our Islamic beliefs and values? By staying silent, we will consent
to this kind of abuse and our governments will continue to be happy
with meaningless apologies. Our governments do not consider these
attacks as crimes.
Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain announces a standing demonstration outside the
Bangladeshi embassy to show solidarity in support of the Muslims in
Bangladesh. We urge all Muslims as a duty to defend their Islam and the
honour of our beloved Prophet (saw) by joining the protest. In
addition, we ask everyone to condemn these crimes by signing the
petition which will be handed to the Bangladeshi government with a list
of demands, and also make calls throughout the week to the embassy
showing our anger and condemnation.
List of demands: -
1. We demand the arrests of Mahfuz Anam (Publisher of Daily Protom
Alo and Weekly 2000), Motiur Rahman (Editor of Protom Alo), and Golam
Murtaza (Editor of Weekly 2000).
2. Suspend the license of the two publications immediately.
3. We demand the re-establishment of the Sharia’ and Khilafah that will protect our Aqeedah and Islamic Values.
Meeting point – 11am, Saturday 29th September
