Ramadhan, Unity and Need for the Khilafah |

Alhamdullilah Ta’la the month of Ramadhan, the month of great blessing and reward is upon us.
It is the month that no doubt brings to life the oneness of the Muslim
Ummah. Muslims all over the world respond to the call of Allah (SWT) to
fast. We perform the fast, break the fast, and pray the tarawih and
tahajjud as one Ummah. No other month in the calendar reminds us more
of our oneness as an Ummah. Allah (SWT) tells us in the Quran:
<Verily, this Ummah of yours is a single Ummah, and I am your Lord
and Cherisher: therefore serve Me (and no other).> (TMQ 21:92). Also
<The Believers are but a single brotherhood> (TMQ 49:10).
Ramadhan is the month in which Allah (SWT) revealed His Guidance, the Qur’an to His Messenger Muhammad (SAW). It is the Qur’an that united the Muslims behind an Aqeeda that elevated us from our different nations and tribes into one Ummah. The belief in Allah, His Messenger, the Qur’an, Akhirah, Jannah and Jahannam liberated the Muslim Ummah from the narrow beliefs and bonds of colour, race and nationalities and unified us into one great Ummah.
Muhammad (SAW) worked throughout his life to build this Ummah on Islam, teaching us not to be divided by colour, race, sects and nationalities. He (SAW) established the first Islamic State in Madinah on the Aqeeda of Islam, thereby practically unifying and leading the Muslims.
The greatest tragedy that befell the Muslims was the destruction of the Khilafah State – the state that represented practically the oneness of the Ummah. The destruction of the Khilafah in 1924 led to the catastrophic breakup and endless divisions within the Muslim Ummah. Whilst Muslims all over the world yearn for unity, it is the nation states, borders, rulers and colonial institutions that keep us divided.
80 years on from the destruction of the Khilafah the forces of Shaytan still continue to divide and disunite the Ummah. In Iraq, where Shia and Sunni Muslims have lived together for centuries, the colonial occupiers have continued to propagate and incite a Sunni, Shia conflict to divide the Muslims along sectarian lines. What is really taking place in Iraq is a complete breakdown of the Maliki administration with competing corrupt factions fighting one another to find favour with America. The Americans use the Sunni, Shia issue to prevent the Muslims from unifying and liberating Iraq from this brutal and devastating occupation. There are calls to dismember Iraq along these sectarian lines, the north for the Kurds, centre for the Sunnis and the south for the Shia. The occupiers, to keep the people divided exploit the corrupt secular, proxy government where each faction struggles for power and position at any cost.
In Palestine over the last year we have seen the conflict increase between Hamas and Fatah leading to calls for an astonishing three state solution with a state for Fatah in the West Bank and a state for Hamas in the Gaza Strip! This is the result of the countless negotiations and peace talks! The Israelis and their American backers exploit these differences between Hamas and Fatah to further consolidate their occupation of Muslim land.
The colonialist western powers know very well where the strength of the Muslims lies. That is why they spent hundreds of years planning and conspiring to destroy the Uthmani Khilafah in Turkey. They know that the Khilafah is the institution that can unite the Muslims into one strong Ummah and that is why they continue to fight this idea. With each Ramadhan the intensity of the propaganda increases from Western capitals against the idea of the Khilafah. They tirelessly attempt to divide the Muslims into ‘moderates’ and ‘extremists’. Moderates being those who readily accept occupation and the politics of the corrupt tyrants and dictators in our countries so loved by America and Britain, extremists being those who believe only Islam as a complete system in state and society i.e. the Khilafah as the only liberation of the Muslims from the catastrophe she is in now.
Brothers and Sisters
Sectarianism, communalism, nationalism, secularism, moderates and extremists have no place in Islam. All these ideas contradict the Islamic Aqeeda and only serve to divide us and strengthen those who plot to harm this Ummah. The colonialists and their agent rulers in our lands have divided us to such an extent that we cannot begin the fast and make Eid on the same day! Yet Allah Ta’ala told us: <And hold fast, all together, by the rope of Allah and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allah's favour on you; for ye were enemies and He joined your hearts in love, so that by His Grace, ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make His Signs clear to you: That ye may be guided.> (TMQ 3:103)
Ramadhan was the month in which Allah (SWT) revealed the Qur’an, the greatest treasure of the Muslim Ummah. It is the only source of Guidance for us. While we recite the Qur’an and listen to the recitation in the masaajid this month, let us ponder over the ayaat obliging us to live as one united Ummah, implementing the Shariah and leading the world to the Dawah of Islam.
We know Muslims all over the world yearn for nothing more than unity. The Aqeeda of Islam inherently unites Muslims. The only thing stopping it is a courageous leader who stands up calling for the unity of the Ummah. This leader will not emerge, brothers and sisters until we make the establishment of the Islamic Khilafah the single most important issue in our lives. It is only the Khilafah that can end the narrow sectarian politics, the artificial borders and the corrupt rulers that stand in the way of our unity. It is with the establishment of the Khilafah that the Muslims will have a leader, an Amir ul Mu’mineen, who will unite the Ummah and liberate her from the subservience of western colonial powers and policies.
Hizb ut-Tahrir is working throughout the Muslim world for this unity. We call upon you to take up this issue without delay and work to uproot all the corrupt ideas that divide us.
Let us strengthen the global call for unity and Khilafah this Ramadhan so that by next Ramadhan we see the Muslims united as One Ummah behind one Amir, insha-Allah, Ta’la. .
Dear Brothers and Sisters! Ramadhan Kareem to all of you and may Allah accept from all of us our siyam, and qiyam, and recitation of Quran. We sincerely ask that Allah lifts the sufferings from our Ummah and strengthens our Iman and taqwa this Ramadhan. Ameen.
