sabiha_khudur_talib.jpgIn the latest report of its kind, it has been alleged that a 62-year-old Iraqi grandmother - Sabiha Khudur Talib - was tortured and executed by British soldiers after her family home was raided in November 2006. Describing her arrest after the raid, one of her sons says the soldiers led his mother to a military vehicle: "I was very worried about her, but could see she was at least uninjured. I then saw a soldier hit her on her back with a rifle butt. The soldiers pulled the blanket off her legs, wrapped this around her and shoved her into the vehicle. I had a clear view of this from where I was kneeling."

The next time the family saw Mrs Talib was when the Iraqi police told them they had found a body on the Al-Zubayr highway.

This latest news follows reports last November that British soldiers recreated the torture conditions of Abu Ghraib and committed the sexual and physical abuse of Iraqi civilians including the rape of a 16 year old boy. The UK government has refused calls for a public enquiry.

All this gives a new meaning to the US and UK governments claims of spreading “freedom, democracy and human rights” to Iraq! We must never forget their true legacy of killings, displacement and torture.

And when it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "We are only peacemakers." Verily! They are the ones who make mischief, but they perceive not. [TMQ Al Baqarah 2:11-12]
