In April 2007 Communities Secretary Ruth Kelly made a speech addressing
'radicalisation' in the Muslim community. Her speech echoed much of what
Tony Blair had said in his speech on integration in December 2006. The subject of mosques and madrassahs was highlighted as a concern for government and in need of urgent government policy. What are their proposals and their implications for our community? This event looks at these proposals in detail and suggests that the government plans are more about curtailing legitimate opinion and achieving a 'British version of Islam'.
