Saturday, 29 December 2007
Following the assassination of the former Pakistani Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto and the rioting across Pakistan which followed, Chairman of the National Executive Committee of Hizb ut Tahrir Britain gave a speech in London on the crisis. Discussing how the violent politics of Pakistan's history and its continual failure as a state, like other Muslim countries, is the consequence of a failure of leadership and political system that allows western colonial states to interefere and dictate both internal and foreign policies. Dr Wahid emphasized how Pakistan must move towards a new leadership and a new system of governance if the cycle of political violence is to end. Dr Wahid re-iterated Hizb ut Tahrir's global call for the return of the Khilafah as the system that will bring unity through Islam, independent leadership, the rule of law and security to the Muslims of Pakistan and across the world.

Abdullah ibn Adam: 21st Century Islamic rule won’t be hereditary
Benazir Bhutto is dead but now there are talks of her teenager son succeeding her "throne". It appears that today’s Muslim states whether "democracies" or monarchies, they all treat politics as their private family chattels, to be handed over to the survivors of the family.

Contrast this with Islam, where there is no engraved principle of hereditary rule (although it happened at times in the past Caliphates). One example of this is the 2nd Caliph Umar (RA) when he died, he forbade his son from succeeding his position as a Caliph.

So Muslims must look to the future. A future Islamic state will not have tribal-style hereditary rule engraved. It will have genuine representative rule where leaders will be elected on meritocratic basis – not based on blood connections. InshAllah, I pray that this Ummah is guided and may the best ones from amongst us rule us.

Nisar Deen: Abdul Wahid & HT are superb
It is motivating to hear a brother discuss this in such a way, never being influenced by the emotion & pressure enveloping every other leader. All have compromised except you. May Allah swt reward you for your sincere efforts and you keep guiding us on the Deen of Allah. You truly deserve the victory.

Abu Haroon: Only the HT people can lead us out of this crisis
Everything has been tried in Pakistan. We had British Raaj- it failed, we had democracy- it failed, we had dictatorship- it failed, and the American Raaj is doomed to failure. The Muslims have tried everything including the so called Islamic Alliance of MMA who are no better then Nawaz Sharif & Musharraf. It is time that Hizbut Tahrir was given a chance & Khialfah was tried as a system. What other option do we have left?
