Stand for Islam: Community Event

As part of a new national campaign to "Stand for Islam" in response to repeated recent attacks upon Islam across Europe, Hizb ut Tahrir Britain, an Islamic political party, held a seminar in Queens Road Community Centre in Walthamstow on Sunday 27th April. The event addressed some of the vital issues such why the West is attacking Islam and how the Muslims of Walthamstow should respond.

Dr Magdi Al-Mahdi, a political activist, addressed the audience by showing the anti-Islam film 'Fitna' released by dutch MP Geert Wilders, and refuted the allegations mentioned in the film that verses of the Qur'an contained violence against civilians.

Speaker, Dr Abdul Wahid, addressed how the Muslim community should mobilise in response to the series of attacks on Islam and Muslims that have taken place across Europe.

Some of the key points raised were: how the western media attack the hudood punishments yet they do not ask why crime is so rampant in the west: why they hypocritically claim free speech as an excuse to abuse Allah's Prophets yet call for the Qur'an to be banned; why they attack the modesty of Muslim women yet they do not answer why women in the west are forced to fulfil the demands of men's appetites in lad's magazines which dishonour them.

The event was attended by over 100 participants representing a broad spectrum of the Muslim community including respected elders, young Muslims and women.
