Hundreds of Muslims packed a hall in London for Hizb ut Tahrir's conference
-Pakistan - time for a new leadership and new system. Delegates heard
from speakers assessing the failed systems of the past and hearing
details about a vision for the future based on Islam: the Khilafah.
Dr Imran Waheed media representative of Hizb ut Tahrir showed how Pakistan's history of democracy and dictatorship have plagued the country for sixty years. He showed that
Musharraf, Nawaz Sherif and Benazir Bhutto have all undermined the judiciary when it suited them, slavishly following US and UK interests. He argued that the democratic system of Pakistan had for 60 years rewarded corruption and that there is an urgent need for a new system.
Sister Shazia Akhtar challenged Benazir Bhutto's claim that she championed the people's interests especially those of women. She reminded the audience that Benazir did nothing to resolve these problems during two discredited terms in office. Morevoer it was shameful that she talked about allievating poverty with the record of her regime for corruption and robbing the state of vital funds.
There were two short powerful talks in Urdu from senior members of the Muslim community who were convinced that the Khilafah was the only alternative for the future of Pakistan.
Brother Asif Khan, head of Hizb ut Tahrir's Pakistan Committee addressed how the Khilafah would address some of Pakistan's key domestic problems of corruption, poverty, oppressive taxation and insecurity.
Sajjad Khan addressed Pakistan's key foreign policy problems, not least that it is being forced to fight the war on terror on behalf of the US. He argued that the khilafah's strength was that it would unify islamic lands pooling human, energy and material resurces.
In a lively question and answer session, questions were asked about the key issues of nuclear power, the risk of future leaderships becoming corrupt and what Muslims in Britain could do from here to help the call for Khilafah in Pakistan.
