Members of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain on Friday 11th October 2019 organised a community event in Tower Hamlets, London, to discuss the recent murder of Abrar Fahad in Bangladesh and the increase in protests against the government. The meeting was attended by imams, lawyers, journalists and other professionals.
Abrar Fahad had written a Facebook post against the Feni river deal agreed by Sheikh Hasina during her visit to India. Abrar was subsequently tortured to death at the hands of the Awami League’s student wing cadres.
The main speech was delivered by Md. Liaquat Sarkar who said that on 5th October 2019, Sheikh Hasina signed several agreements with India:
- India and Bangladesh agreed to establish a coastal surveillance radar system in Bangladesh;
- Both countries signed a memorandum of understanding to facilitate the use of Chattogram and Mongla ports for movement of goods to and from India;
- Bangladesh has agreed to let India withdraw 1.82 cusecs of water from the Feni river;
- While Hasina has continued increasing the price of gas under the pretext of a shortfall in domestic gas supply, she has agreed with India to export liquefied petroleum gas.
The speaker, stated that these agreements are part of years of subservience of the Hasina government to India ever since she came to power, starting with the massacre of 57 military officers at Pilkhana who were considered obstacles to implementing the policy of Indian dominance.
The speech was concluded by explaining how only the Khilafah state can free Bangladesh from Indian and imperialist domination and save the people from the tyranny of the rulers. It is an Islamic obligation on the people to oppose the Indian and imperialist domination, remove the current regime, and establish the Khilafah state.
According to Islamic law natural gas, rivers and ports are all public property, whose privatisation or handover to enemy states like India is completely forbidden. Furthermore, Islam forbids the disbelievers from having dominance over the Ummah. The Khilafah will annul all such agreements and utilise the strategic resources in the Ummah’s interests and be established as a leading state in the world.
