Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain strongly condemns Syrian regime’ s massacre of prisoners at Saydnaya Prison
London, UK, July 9 2008 – Reliable reports have emerged of a systematic massacre of political prisoners at Saydnaya prison near Damascus by the Syrian authorities last weekend.
The shootings and murders of several Islamic political prisoners, held for their opposition to the brutal regime of Bashar Al-Assad, occurred during a prison protest against ill treatment. It was also reported that the prison guards desecrated the Quran to provoke and humiliate the prisoners.
Commenting on this, Taji Mustafa, media representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, said, "Like his father before him, Bashar Al-Assad’s brutality knows no bounds. He has tried to silence political opposition to his tyrannical rule and his negotiations with Israel by arresting, torturing and imprisoning thousands of Islamic activists including members of Hizb ut-Tahrir, and has now resorted to murdering them in prison."
“These attacks have been reported by various news agencies yet western politicians and media outlets, so vocal when attacking dictators like Mugabe, have maintained a curiously selective silence over this shocking news.”
"Assad’s hands drip with the blood of these prisoners. Yet, he is assured a red carpet welcome on his visit to France next week as an ally in the ‘war on terror’. It should not be forgotten that the US government outsourced and transferred prisoners to be tortured in Syria as part of its extraordinary rendition program."
"The brutality of Assad, Mubarak, Abdallah and other western backed tyrants will only strengthen the growing movement for the return of the Caliphate in the Muslim world, as people increasingly see that they have no solutions for the Middle East – only more repression, torture and massacres. The Caliphate will end the era of unelected dictators and tyrants and establish a society where people of the region live in stability, justice and peace under the just laws of Islam."
