London, UK, July 14 – Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain has learnt from credible sources that the UK government is considering curtailing the activities of the party in the UK. It is well known that Hizb ut-Tahrir has chosen the path of intellectual and political work and rejected the use of violence. Despite this it seems that the UK government may utilise the aftermath of the London bombings to repress legitimate Islamic political expression by blurring the margins between Political Islam and violence.
After meeting with Tony Blair yesterday, Shahid Malik MP and Khalid Mahmood MP have both suggested that action needs to be taken against Hizb ut-Tahrir.
Hizb ut-Tahrir will distribute tens of thousands of leaflets at all major mosques across the UK after Friday prayers tomorrow calling on the Muslim community not to remain silent and to continue speaking the truth about the brutal colonialism of Western governments in the Muslim world and the tyranny of the Muslim rulers.
Dr Imran Waheed, the Representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, said, "We strongly reject any suggestion that Hizb ut-Tahrir is 'radicalising' the Muslim community. It is Hizb ut-Tahrir who is channelling the emotions of the Muslim community, who have been incensed by the West's colonialism in the Muslim world, into political work. Hizb ut-Tahrir has nothing to hide and will continue to work openly with the Muslim masses by encouraging dialogue and discussion about the role of our community in Britain."
"The statements by Shahid Malik and Khalid Mahmood calling for action against Hizb ut-Tahrir are evidence of their intolerance of other views. We challenge them to openly debate the issues that our community is facing rather than attempting to impose their narrow views upon our community."
"In response to these developments Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain has also initiated a mass contact campaign with Western intellectuals and thinkers to dispel the myths that exist about Political Islam."
