HT Bangladesh: Only the Khilafah can stop sexual harassment in educational institutions
Press Release: Official Spokeswoman of Hizb ut-Tahrir, in Bangladesh Fahmida Farhana Khanam has expressed deep concern about the news of increasing sexual harassment in different colleges and universities in the country recently.
For the last few years sexual harassment of female students has been increasing in different educational institutes including Dhaka, Rajshahi, Jahangirnagar and other universities. Most recently in Mirpur BCIC School and College female students were harassed and assaulted by some teachers.
In her statement Fahmida Farhana Khanam said that even though more than fifty women’s rights and human rights organizations have been working in the country since independence to ensure women’s rights and security, the rate of women’s oppression in different sectors is alarmingly increasing. Successive governments have also passed various laws, but failed to ensure the security of women. Moreover the educational institutes have now become a new arena for women oppression.
Harassment and oppression of women in educational institutions respected by the people are the direct and indirect result of Western capitalist concepts. In the name of equal rights and empowerment of women, the media are continuously portraying women as a sexual object which is creating a perverted view towards women in the society. This view is leading to sexual harassment and oppression of women in every sector including educational institutes. Policies after policies and strings of new laws have failed to prevent oppression of women. Because these laws are based on the west capitalist system.
Fahmida Farhana Khanam said in order to solve the problem of women oppression, we need to eradicate the capitalist system and replace it with the Islamic Khilafah system. The Khilafah system based on accountability and Taqwa truly ensures the rights and security of women and establishes them in real position of honour. Only this system will effectively stop all oppression towards women including harassment in educational institutions.
