London, UK, January 9, 2007 – Despite today’s revelation that a day before the July 7 bombings, the head of MI5 briefed some MPs saying there was "no imminent threat to London or the country" from an attack, the past eighteen months has seen government ministers repeatedly blaming the Muslim community as if it should have known and done more to prevent the bombings. This is further evidence that the Government plays politics with security when it continuously seeks to deny the link between its policies and the violence and insecurity we all face.
Commenting on the revelation, Dr Imran Waheed, media representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, "Even though the head of MI5 did not know about the July bombings, yet the government has sought to blame the Muslim community as if it should have known and done more to prevent these bombings. This proves that the attacks on the Muslim community is more about playing politics with security rather than addressing the intelligence failures and the real cause of the terror threat which report after report has unveiled to be the Iraq war.”
“The general public should find it alarming that the Government has sought to divert attention from serious issues of domestic and foreign policy by headline grabbing measures and ridiculous proposals like asking Muslim parents to spy on their children.“
