Only to silence debate does Government warn of risk to British soldiers
London, UK, October 31 – The government may refuse to have an inquiry into the Iraq war but nevertheless Iraq is a disaster and Blair is completely isolated in his defence of the Iraq policy.
The government refuses to have an inquiry into the Iraq war because it
is clear that any such inquiry will yet again expose the reality of the
disastrous intervention in Iraq – over 650,000 dead, no weapons of mass
destruction and misery worse than under any ruthless dictator.
The head of the British Army has admitted that the occupation of Iraq
is fuelling violence and instability, senior Cabinet officials have
identified British foreign policy as the cause of 'terror activity' and
over 60 % of UK voters want British troops withdrawn from Iraq,
regardless of the consequences.
Dr Imran Waheed, media representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, said,
"The Government was only too happy to put young British soldiers in
harm's way to illegally invade Iraq, install a loyal and subservient
regime and fatten the profits of corporations, all on the basis of a
'dodgy dossier'. In now wanting to silence debate they have the
audacity to argue that such debates put British soldiers in harm's way."
