Statement of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain regarding the Verdict in the Case of Mr Zahid Sharif
London, UK, November 28 – We are pleased to hear that Mr Sharif and the other member of his family have been acquitted and we hope that the family will now have the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
We would like to restate our position; Hizb ut-Tahrir is a non-violent Islamic political party and only accepts from its members to engage in intellectual and political work. We also reiterate our advice to the Muslim community to adhere to its Islamic values, live as decent citizens, and remind them of the duty of care and prevention of harm, that they have towards their fellow citizens, Muslims and non-Muslims.
We also acknowledge that during the case the prosecution attested to the fact that Hizb ut-Tahrir is a non violent organisation.
It is a sad fact that since the events of 7/7 there has been an attempt to besmirch the upstanding character of the whole Muslim community in Britain which will invariably have an adverse impact on any Muslim facing trial in this climate.
