UK Government professes help for Palestinian victims whilst actively aiding Israeli terrorism
London UK, 19 January 2009 – The British government has promised naval forces to help Israel maintain an arms blockade of Gaza and continue selling arms used in Israel’s latest terrorist acts against Palestinians. At the same time, it is cynically offering to help alleviate Gaza’s humanitarian suffering, which British weapons helped inflict.
Taji Mustafa, Media Representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain said: "In Sharm el-Sheikh and Jerusalem yesterday, Gordon Brown promised to ‘do everything to stop the trafficking of arms by land and by sea’ into Gaza saying this is ‘at the root of the problem’ and offered help enforcing such a blockade. This is nothing more that the British government’s aiding and abetting of Israeli terrorism.”
“Brown refuses to admit that British supplied weapons were used in Israel’s genocidal killing of over 1200 Palestinian men, women and children over the last three weeks though the government’s own figures show it is selling more and more weapons to Israel. In 2007, Britain approved £6 million of arms exports. In 2008, it licensed sales 12 times as fast: £20m in the first three months alone."
"This is consistent with the British government’s language of understanding for Israel’s recent terrorist bombings in Gaza coupled with statements of ‘regret’ for those slaughtered and injured."
"While the British government continues aiding the preparation and commission of Israeli terrorism, it is engaged in an utterly deceptive PR stunt of writing letters to Mosques in the UK portraying its actions as even handed and humanitarian. However, they fool no one with their double-speak."
