Speaking after the conference in Tunisia, Mrs Clinton said: “It’s quite distressing to see two permanent members of the Security Council using their veto while people are being murdered – women, children, brave young men – houses are being destroyed. It is just despicable and I ask whose side are they on? They are clearly not on the side of the Syrian people. Using her speech to over 70 delegates she said, if the Assad regime did not co-operate, it would have “even more blood on its hands.”

But the Arab delegates struggled to understand her scathing attack in English, and had to resort to the following translated version…

“We have heard that half a million children have died. I mean, that’s more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?” Secretary of State replied: “I think this is a very hard choice, but the price–we think the price is worth it.” It is not despicable at all and I don’t question whose side [Madeleine & Albright] was on.
