Police charged batons on the procession of banned organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir and picked up 14 of its activists when they brought out their scheduled procession in the city on Saturday.
A policeman, Hazzaz, patrol inspector of Motijheel Police Station, received head injuries during a chase and counter chase between the activists and the law enforcers.
Witnesses said the activists of Hizb ut-Tahrir brought out a procession from Kakrail crossing around 12:45pm.
As the procession moved towards Purana Paltan, police intercepted it and charge batons on the processionists.
Paltan police picked up 14 activists of Hizb ut-Tahrir from the spot, Anwarul Hossain, deputy commissioner of Motijheel zone confirmed.
The injured policeman was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
