Brigadier’s arrest brings Hizb-ut-Tahrir into focus
ISLAMABAD: Arrest of a Pakistan Army Brigadier Ali Khan because of his links with Hizb-ut-Tahrir has led to an interesting situation as Hizb-ut-Tahrir is a political movement and not a militant organization and no one, including the United States, has ever alleged it to be a militant or a terrorist outfit.
Hizb-ut-Tahrir, though a banned organization in Pakistan, according to its declared agenda and objectives believes in political struggle and to convince masses in Muslim and non-Muslim countries to unify the whole Muslim world into one unit or state which will be governed by the one head of state, the caliph.
According to the introduction of Hizb-ut-Tahrir as given on Wikipedia, “Hizb-ut-Tahrir” is an international pan-Islamic political organisation whose goal is for all Muslim countries to unify as an Islamic state or caliphate ruled by Islamic law and with a caliph head of state elected by Muslims.
It has the strongest set up in the United Kingdom and it distributes its literature in all major cities of UK in a peaceful way. According to newspaper records, United States without declaring Hizb-ut-Tahrir as a militant organization, banned it seeing its future plans to unify the Muslim world as a danger to America.
Hizb-ut-Tahrir was extremely critical of former military dictator Pervez Musharraf and his pro-American policies so Musharraf banned it in Pakistan and also tried to persuade UK to do the same but he failed in his attempt as no proof of indulging in any terrorist activity was found.
Experts said it would be interesting to see the fate of case of Brigadier Ali Khan as according to allegations so far levelled against him he was simply in touch with Hizb-ut-Tehrir.
Wikipedia says some observers believe Hizb-ut-Tahrir is the victim of false allegations of connections to terrorism, pointing out that the organization explicitly commits itself to non-violence. Others argue that the group’s opposition to violence is tactical and temporary, and that it works to create a politically charged atmosphere conducive to terrorism.”
On Hizb-ut-Tahrir website the organization introduces itself as: “Hizb-ut-Tahrir is a political party whose ideology is Islam. Its objective is to resume the Islamic way of life by establishing an Islamic State that executes the systems of Islam and carries its call to the world.”
