- The Messenger of Allah (saw) said that ‘the Angels of Allah have spread their wings over Al-Sham’ (Tirmidhi). Al-Sham (Syria, Palestine and surrounding areas) is a blessed land; it is praised by Allah (swt) in the Quran with glad tidings and there are many ahadith mentioning its greatness. It is the land of the first Qibla and where Isa ibn Maryam (AS) will return.
- It is rich Islamic in history; a place where key events took place. From the ascension of Muhammad (saw) at the blessed Masjid al-Aqsa, to battles later won by the likes of Khalid ibn al-Walid, Salahuddin and Sultan Saifuddin Qutuz.
- Syria’s revolution has a clear Islamic character; what the people of Syria desire is what all Muslims desire; to live by Islam, see the shariah of Allah (swt) applied in society, and to live under the shade of its justice.
- The immense show of patience and perseverance shown by its brave Muslims is a lesson to us all. Despite unspeakable atrocities that have seen them killed, bombed, chemically attacked and tortured they have remained steadfast to their deen and their reliance on Allah (swt) alone.
- The five year duration of this conflict does not reduce its value or indicate failure. Rather it shows that the Islamic opposition to the Assad regime remains strong and that the people of Syria have not compromised in what they seek
- The Assad regime was tyrannical and an opponent to Islam long before the uprisings began in 2011 continuing ‘like father, like son’ the Assad family have a 40 year history of serving the western interests through oppressing the Ummah.
- The way that the Syrian conflict has been reported in much of the media is wrong; the conflict has been framed to reshape how we view Syria and the region. It is not a battle between the USA and Russia; nor Saudi Arabia vs Iran – they are all on the same side; it is not even a sectarian struggle of Sunni vs Shi’ah. The conflict is between those who that want to impose a secular, liberal outlook for Syria versus the majority of the masses who want Islam.
- The ‘help’ given by Muslim countries must be seen in the context of what they could have done and what Islam demands of them; Yes, aid and sanctuary for refugees have been provided in parts. Yet no serious military resolve despite the thousands of men and huge resources at Turkey and Saudi Arabia’s disposal to tackle the Syrian regime at source has been made or even attempted.
- The rise of ISIS and their declaration of a phony caliphate has been a ‘red herring’; used to give legitimacy to the Assad regime and an excuse for foreign powers to expand their presence and meddling in the Muslim world.
- Western governments have plotted and planned to halt the Syrian uprising from its very inception; it has cherry picked leaders who would work for the West’s goals, turned a blind eye to the abuse of the Assad regime, selectively funded groups to suit their interests and held conferences and ‘peace talks’ to stifle the Islamic groups and pressurise them into giving up their aims.
