Trump Fires FBI Chief Whilst Under Investigation – A farcical display of Democracy

Donald Trump has fired James Comey as FBI director in a move that has raised concerns over the independence of the bureau’s investigation into links between the Trump campaign and Russia in the run-up to last year’s US presidential election.

The dismissal of America’s top law enforcement official came days after he testified on Capitol Hill about Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of state and the FBI’s investigation into Russian election interference. One Senate Democrat described the move as “Nixonian”.

Donald Trump is no angel, neither are the FBI. They have a littered history of using it’s sly hand to interfer in US domestic politics.

In the J Edgar Hoover years, the bureau was a deeply political instrument. Hoover’s personal crusade against communists, targeting of antiwar and civil rights activists, and his use of F.B.I. files to pressure or blackmail other officials, including presidents defined the bureau for decades.

“The bureau played a very important role behind the scenes in shaping American politics during the Cold War,” said Athan G. Theoharis, a professor emeritus at Marquette University and a historian of the F.B.I. “When you have a secret agency that uses its huge resources to influence politics, that’s a dangerous thing.”

The US is an embarrassing example of democracy and accountability in the world. Even investigating a serious breach in its celebrated election process has become a Hollywood flick.

The Islamic Khilafah will not have a situation where the individual investigating the Head of State is removed before the ‘Fed’s’ turn up. It will investigate until conclusions are made of the matter in question.

The Khilafah has an independent high court called the Court of Unjust Acts (mahkamat mazalim). It is presided over by the most qualified judges (Qadi Mazalim) in the state and granted extensive powers by the Shari’ah. It has the power to remove any official of state regardless of their role or rank, including, most importantly, the Khaleefah if he persists in pursuing a path that lies outside of the terms of his Bay’ah.

Unlike the FBI, the Qadi Mazalim is free from political influence, with the Shari’ah restricting the executive powers of the Khaleefah regarding the Qadi’s removal from office. If the Qadi Mazalim is currently investigating a case against the Khaleefah, Delegated Assistant (Mua’win ut-tafweedh) or the Chief Justice (Qadi al-Qudah) then the Khaleefah cannot remove the Qadi Mazalim from his post.

America needs to take a close look in the mirror and realise that they simply have nothing to offer to the world. US governments have stomped around the world championing democracy but it’s own democracy has become farcical.

News Article: FBI chief James Comey fired by Trump

US President Donald Trump has fired the director of the FBI over his handling of the inquiry into Hillary Clinton’s emails, the administration says.

The White House shocked Washington by announcing that James Comey “has been terminated and removed from office”.

But Democrats said he was fired because the FBI was investigating alleged links between the Trump campaign and Russia.

The move came as it emerged Mr Comey gave inaccurate information to Congress last week about Mrs Clinton emails.

Mr Comey was addressing FBI agents in Los Angeles when, according to US media, he learned he had just been fired when he saw the news on television.

The 56-year-old – who was three-and-a-half years into his 10-year term as FBI director – reportedly laughed, thinking it was a prank.

The White House said the search for a successor would begin immediately. It is only the second time the head of the FBI has been fired.

Why does the administration say Comey was fired?

President Trump wrote in a letter to Mr Comey that he agreed with US Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ recommendation that “you are not able to effectively lead the Bureau”.

Mr Sessions said the department of justice was “committed to a high level of discipline, integrity, and the rule of law”, and “a fresh start is needed”.

Many have expressed surprise that Mr Comey should be fired for his handling of the investigation into Mrs Clinton’s use of a private email server for sensitive government business, given that Mr Trump once praised the FBI director’s conduct in the matter.

In the final days of the presidential campaign, Mr Trump told a rally it “took guts” for Mr Comey to reopen the inquiry. “What he did brought back his reputation,” Mr Trump said.
