Summary
Hizb ut Tahrir held a recent event in North London to address the renewed American pressure on Pakistan to ‘do more’. The event was attended by members of the local community and was addressed by Professor Ismail and Mohammed Atif.
Professor Ismail opened his address by stating that American public demands to ‘do more’ were not new; they were part of a repetitive pattern of behaviour from America for many years to extract concessions from Pakistan. For its part, Ismail said:
Pakistan’s leaders have always continued to comply with these American demands whilst giving patriotic soundbites for domestic public consumption.
A good example of this are the continued US drone strikes inside Pakistan and the unhindered supply lines for US/NATO troops in Afghanistan traversing the length of Pakistan. More recently they have started to fence the Afghan border to please their American masters’ he said.
Prof Ismail said that:
by helping America stay the course in Afghanistan, Pakistan had allowed America to help India to establish a strong presence inside Afghanistan. What kind of policy strengthens your traditional enemy he asked?
Together, both America and India had wreaked terror inside Pakistan as evidenced by the capture of American CIA agent Raymond Davis in Lahore and Indian RAW agent Kulbhushan Jadhav in Balochistan. Now as part of America’s plan to contain China, it is forcing Pakistan to abandon Kashmir to India’s tyranny of occupation he said.
Mohammed Atif said:
that no matter who has ruled Pakistan, either a military dictator or a democratic ruler, all have consistently followed a policy of compliance with American demands. This has been particularly evident since the War on Terror started under General Pervez Musharraf, then under the PPP’s Asif Ali Zardari and now under Nawaz Sharif’s PML-N; this has also included successive army chiefs Generals Kayani, Raheel Sharif and now General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
These rulers he said have betrayed the Islamic vision upon which Pakistan was founded; instead they have looted and plundered the country over years whilst executing sordid deals with colonial powers like America as part of this corruption to sustain themselves.
What Pakistan needed was not a change of face under another fake electoral process but a change of system from the corrupt secular system to the Islamic Khilafah that would banish American and the personal petty interests of Pakistan’s rulers by implementing the Shariah. The Khilafah would cut the weak thread sustaining America inside Afghanistan by terminating the US supply lines thereby ending America’s Afghan occupation. He said that Indian threats would be challenged with India punished for its brutal occupation of Kashmir with the Khilafah openly supporting the Muslims of Kashmir through its military. He concluded by saying that Pakistan’s rulers were facing growing discontent and it was for us to advocate this Islamic political solution as the only way forward.
