27th April 2013: Hizb ut-Tahrir today organised a march in the heart of the Bangladeshi community of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The theme of the march was ‘Remove the Awami League Government: Bangladesh Needs Khilafah.’ The demonstration highlighted and accounted Sheikh Hasina’s government’s brutality and violence which it has unleashed against the people and urged people to unite under the banner of Islam as the only solution to the current crisis in Bangladesh. Hundreds of people including ulema and leaders of other Islamic parties participated in the march.
Speakers at the event strongly condemned the Awami League government’s attack on Islam, Islamic scholars and the ordinary God-fearing people of Bangladesh. Addressing the demonstrators, Hizb ut-Tahrir member, Nazmul Haque, highlighted how the current crisis in Bangladesh is the result of the corrupt Awami-BNP politics. He also spoke of how for over two decades, Bangladesh has been implementing the democratic system which has only brought misery, violence and corruption. Furthermore, both the Awami League and the BNP have been in power twice and each time they have brought more death and destruction. He said the recent collapse of the building in Savar, Dhaka, due to state negligence and which resulted in more than 360 deaths and many injuries, clearly shows how utterly incapable these politicians are of looking after the affairs of the people. Finally, he strongly urged people to reject democracy and the failed politics of the Awami League and the BNP by establishing a Khilafah State.
The protest march ended with Hizb ut-Tahrir member Liakot Sarkar demanding that the Awami League government immediately end all violence, harassment and attack on the ulema, and punishment for all those who insult our Prophet (saw) and Islam. He also urged the Muslims to reject the corrupt Awami-BNP politics, to unite under the banner of Islam and to sincerely work for the Khilafah State.
