London UK, 11th August 2012 – Hundreds of Muslims gathered at the Bangladesh High Commission in London to protest against Sheikh Hasina’s goverment’s closure of the Bangladesh border to Rohingya Muslims fleeing brutal
persecution in Burma (Myanmar). The demonstration was organised by Hizb ut-Tahrir in Britain.
Some of the protestors chants included “Bangladesh, Open the borders”, “Muslim Ummah, One ummah”, “Rohingya problems, Ummah’s problems” and “Sheikh Hasina, Shame on you”
Protestors stood behind a banner that read ‘Open the borders to Rohingya refugees’.
The rally was addressed by Liaquot Sharker, Mujibul Islam, Taji Mustafa and Dr Abdul Wahid from Hizb ut-Tahrir.
Speakers roundly condemned the Bangladesh government’s closure of the borders and its sending back of Rohingya refugees who are being killed and tortured in Burma. They also condemned its stopping of aid agencies helping the Rohingyas in Bangladesh. They demanded that the Bangladesh government open its borders to the Rohingya brothers and sisters fleeing persecution.
They said the reality today is that the Muslim Ummah has no leader to stand up for her. Rather we have corrupt puppet regimes like Hasina’s that are enslaved to serving the interests of foreign powers. They urged that we have a duty to account the regime in Bangladesh for its collusion with the regime in Burma and must demand that it opens the border to those fleeing persecution. Moreover, this crisis is yet another proof of the need for establishing the Islamic Khilafah state – which would govern by the laws of Allah, establish Justice on this earth, protect the blood, honour and wealth of Muslims from the plans and ambitions of criminals and aggressors.
Speakers called on Muslims in Britain to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Muslims in Burma and to continue putting pressure on the Muslim rulers to open borders to Rohingyas and cut relations with Burma. We urge all Muslims who watch these atrocities to intensify the work for establishing the Khilafah that will liberate the Ummah from this mighty oppression. The demonstration ended peacefully with dua that Allah (swt) bring His Help and Victory soon.
