London, UK, April 18 2009 – A news report from the AFP News Agency (Bangladesh nabs 31 suspected Islamic militants) has wrongly claimed that 31 people arrested west of Dhaka, Bangladesh on Friday (17th April 2009) for allegedly plotting terrorist attacks are members of Hizb ut-Tahrir. The report has subsequently been carried by various English language news websites.
Taji Mustafa, media representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain said, "We would like to point out for the record that this AFP report is inaccurate as those arrested yesterday are not members and have no connection with Hizb ut-Tahrir.”
“Unlike the AFP report, the local Bangladesh press did not make the same error. It is well known across the globe that Hizb ut-Tahrir only engages in intellectual and political activities. We have contacted AFP and they have now corrected this error.”
