London UK, 11th July 2010 – Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain strongly condemns the arrest, by the fascist Awami League government, of Professor Dr Golam Mawla, senior member of Hizb ut-Tahrir Bangladesh.
The government arrested Dr Golam Mawla on the false and baseless allegations of terrorism. Dr Golam Mawla is a well known professor of management studies at the Dhaka University and is regarded by those who know him as sincere, upright person with exceptional abilities.
The real reason for arresting Dr Golam Mawla is an attempt to silence Hizb ut-Tahrir from exposing Awami League’s plan to subjugate Bangladesh to American and Indian interests. It is no surprise that the arrest comes within two days of Hizb ut-Tahrir’s protest demonstration against the US military’s ‘Tiger Shark-3’ exercise in Chittagong. In April of this year the government arrested Official Spokesman of the party, Mohiuddin Ahmed and Deputy Spokesman, Kazi Murshedul Haque after the party protested against US military exercise, ‘Tiger Shark-2’. Similarly they banned the party in October 2009 after the party protested against ‘Tiger Shark-1’. This highlights that America has evil designs behind her increasing military presence in Bangladesh and they are using their agent, Sheikh Hasina, and the ruling regime in the country to suppress any voice of protest by the people.
Mujibul Islam deputy media representative of Hizb ut Tahrir in Britain said, “These arrests of innocent members of Hizb ut Tahrir who have done nothing other than spoken against the conspiracies of the foreign powers against Bangladesh and the role of the Awami League government has exposed the farce of ‘democracy’ in Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina’s government is increasingly turning Bangladesh into a one party state where criticism of government policy is rewarded with black propaganda, arbitrary arrests, torture and false charges. It reminds the people of Bangladesh of the BAKSAL government of Mujib in 1975. It is ironic that the Awami League government accuses Hizb ut-Tahrir of violence and terrorism when it is the Awami league that has unleashed tyranny, violence and terrorism throughout the country. In 2009 the Hasina government colluded in committing the most heinous crime of massacring the country’s senior army officers in Pilkhana. All these events are designed to cripple Bangladesh and ensure the complete subservience to India and America.”
“Sheikh Hasina is turning Bangladesh into a tyrannical dictatorship. It is time for the sincere and conscious people to speak out against this oppressive and criminal regime. Arresting and torturing innocent members of Hizb ut Tahrir only shows the desperation of this regime and marks the beginning of the end of the Awami League government. Hizb ut-Tahrir calls upon all the people and parties to work to build a strong movement to remove this Awami League government and establish an Islamic Khilafah state that will ensure an accountable government, end corruption and establish the rule of law in Bangladesh”
