On Friday 30th November Hizb ut-Tahrir Tower Hamlets held a fund
raising event in order to raise money for the cyclone victims of
Bangladesh. Nazrul Islam chaired the event and among those who attended
were people from the community, and supporters of Hizb ut-Tahrir.
Mujib Islam, a member of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, made a brief presentation at the event. In his speech he said, “Thousands of people have died and have been made homeless as result of the vicious cyclone that struck the country. Many have lost their husbands, sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, homes, etc. Although, this cyclone attack is very severe, natural disasters are not new in the country; yet we find our government has failed to prepare for such a catastrophe, respond in time to reach out to the people in the aftermath, and no commitment to help people rebuild their lives. Furthermore, the country is under security threat from superpowers like the U.S. who will use this as an excuse to bring in their military with other political objectives, just as they have done in other parts of the World. To depend on external powers like the U.S. will put Bangladesh’s sovereignty and security at risk.”
He further highlighted that due to the current government’s incompetence, just like our previous leaders, all concerned people should immediately come forward with their donation and help the cyclone victims in their time of need. He further added that as a long-term, permanent solution, the people should work for the Khilafah, because it is the only form of government that will have the will and desire to care for the people.
