Hundreds of women will attend a seminar [Muslim Women in Today’s Britain: The Challenges, the Solutions] for women in Manchester this Saturday [20th June] organised by Women of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain to address the various challenges and problems Muslim women face in Britain.
Muslim women in Britain face pressure to re-evaluate whether their Islamic identity is relevant for modern life, to question whether their Islamic beliefs are appropriate for British society, and to adopt values that are at odds with their religious convictions.
This seminar seeks to address these various challenges as well as present clear solutions to the various dilemmas Muslim women face in adhering to Islam in the West.
Dr. Nazreen Nawaz, the Women’s Media Representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain commented, “Only a defeated mind believes in changing ideas through coercion and labelling rather than the power of conviction. Therefore, attempts to secularize Islam and pressurize Muslims to adopt liberal values through bully-boy scare-tactics reflect a government that has failed to convince the Muslim community intellectually of the superiority of secular liberalism.”
“Furthermore, in true capitalist style, the government is riding on the back of the disadvantages that Muslim women face in British society for their own political advantage. This seminar amongst other issues will highlight the strength of conviction that Muslim women have in their Islamic beliefs, enabling them to resist pressures that bully them into compromising Islam and turning their backs on the injustices faced by Muslims globally. It will emphasize that labels of “extremism” or scare-tactics will be fruitless in silencing the support of Muslim women for Islamic governance in the Muslim world.”
