Press Release: Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain holds Press Conference condemning the unjust arrests of its 10 members in Bangladesh and demands their immediate release
Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain held a press conference today condemning the arrests of their members in Bangladesh. The event was attended by representatives from all the Bangla TV channels and print media. The conference was chaired by Nazmul Hoque, senior member of Hizb ut-Tahrir’s Bangla team in Britain, and the panel consisted of Mujibul Islam, Hizb ut-Tahrir’s Bangla media representative, as well as other prominent members of the Bangla team.
Nazmul Hoque introduced the conference with a summary of how members of Hizb ut-Tahrir were unjustly arrested at a press conference in Rajshahi, Bangladesh. The press conference in BD was held to oppose and clarify the negative propaganda by the media in Rajshahi. As soon as the members attended they were arrested without any legal grounds.
After Nazmul’s introduction, the response by Mohiuddin Ahmed, Chief Coordinator and Spokesperson of Hizb ut-Tahrir Bangladesh, dated 22/09/08, was read out. The statement explains how the call for Khilafah and establishing the law of Allah (swt), as well as unifying the Muslim Ummah, is not an illegal activity. Nor has the party ever been known for any form of violence and its method is well known to be political and based upon the method of the Muhammad (saw). It was incorrect for papers such as Protom Alo to compare Hizb ut-Tahrir with groups that are known for violence and spreading lies to defame the party. Hizb ut-Tahrir will continue with its call for Khilafah in a non-violent way and demands the immediate arrests of its members.
The floor was then opened up for a healthy question and answer session. The media representatives were sympathetic after asking their questions for clarification. In conclusion, Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain announced a protest to release their members outside the Bangladesh Embassy at 2:30pm on Saturday 27th September, and invited all the media to attend.
The conference ended with Iftar and further healthy discussions between the members of Hizb ut-Tahrir and their guests.
