London, UK, July 24 – In response to comments about the London bombings made by President Musharraf in a TV address on July 17th 2005, Hizb ut-Tahrir, the global non-violent Islamic political party, rejects outright his allegation that Hizb ut-Tahrir "had the audacity of passing an edict" against his life.
Hizb ut-Tahrir has never issued any edict calling for the killings of either Musharraf or any of the rulers of the Muslim world. Hizb ut-Tahrir categorically rejects violence, militancy or armed struggle as a method to re-establish the Islamic State. In their treatment of Hizb ut-Tahrir, the rulers of the Muslim world have made it abundantly clear that they will not tolerate any political dissent whatsoever. Despite this intense repression, including torture, rape, imprisonment without trial and extra-judicial killings, Hizb ut-Tahrir has not wavered from the path of non-violent political work in the slightest. The dungeons of the Muslim world are full with our prisoners of conscience. The current global leader of Hizb ut-Tahrir, Ata Abu Rushta, was a designated Amnesty International prisoner of conscience in the late 1990s.
Dr Imran Waheed, a UK based doctor and the Representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, said, "These lies demonstrate the frustration of his regime and others throughout the Muslim world in countering Hizb ut-Tahrir's peaceful intellectual and political work. Rather than confronting Hizb ut-Tahrir in an intellectual debate, he pleads with his Western masters to silence us."
