London, UK, December 11 – Many participants will attend a
public meeting in London on Wednesday [13th December 2006] convened by
the Islamic political party, Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain.
after the incoming US Defence Secretary admitted that the US was not
winning the war in Iraq, the Iraq Study Group (ISG) report described
the situation as "grave and dangerous", adding that "there is no path
that can guarantee success".
Most commentators have greeted the ISG’s proposals to reduce US troop numbers, along with dialogue with Syria and Iran, as a welcome change of strategy. However, a closer look at it’s recommendations reveals a continuation of occupation, maintenance of tens of thousands of US troops in the region, and other policies designed to appease US public opinion rather than improve conditions for the people of Iraq.
At this meeting entitled “A response from Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain to the Iraq Study Group report”, Jamal Harwood, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, will lead a panel that will address the reality of the report, reject the failed strategy of supporting regional Muslim dictators and outline an alternative political vision for the region based upon a model of Islamic governance.
