The trial against Wilders is a complete joke that is nothing less than an embarrassment for Wilders and the Dutch state.
In the past the Dutch state itself chose to limit through legislation the now much discussed “freedom of speech”. Insulting the royal family has been made a punishable offence, insulting groups of people has been made a punishable offence, calling for hatred has been made a punishable offence and discrimination has been made a punishable offence.
It is the job of the Public Prosecutors Office to bring to court those people that have broken laws, or regarding whom there are (strong) suspicions that they have broken laws. That is why the Public Prosecutors Office only recently jumped on a group of Muslims like a wild animals jumps on its prey, after these Muslims had published a Holocaust cartoon in protest at the sayings of Wilders. The Public Prosecutors Office suspected them to have broken the law against insulting groups of people and requested a judge to give them a serious punishment. Which, in the end, indeed happened.
Wilders himself, however, has always been left alone by the Public Prosecutors Office. Although ever since he began his crusade against Islam and the Muslims, he has continuously made comments that most definitely insult groups of people, and regarding whom many have said they also break the laws against calling for hatred and discrimination. But, the Public Prosecutors Office did not want to hear anything of a case against Wilders. It took an initiative by civilians, which resulted in a court case against the Public Prosecutors Office, to force the Public Prosecutors Office to open a case against Wilders such that his comments could be evaluated against the laws banning insults against groups of people, calling for hatred and discrimination by a judge. The current trial against Wilders is the outcome of this initiative.
The Public Prosecutors Office is only resentfully undertaking the current case against Wilders. This is apparent in everything that has taken place so far.
For instance, from the start, the Public Prosecutors Office said that it was not unlikely that during court proceedings she would seek an acquittal for Wilders and the Public Prosecutors Office has now indeed requested that the judge should acquit Wilders.
Others have pointed out that the Public Prosecutors Office left out from the case those comments by Wilders that most likely did indeed break the law.*
And during the first days of the trial proceeding it was very apparent that the Public Prosecutors Office behaved more like a defense attorney for Wilders than like a proper public prosecutor. For example, after Wilder’s defense attorney called to the stand as witnesses some so-called ‘Islam experts’, who said that the comments of Wilders are simple the truth, the Public Prosecutors Office did not call to the stand as witnesses the many other ‘Islam experts’ that say the comments of Mr Wilders are poisonous lies. The Public Prosecutors Office did not even bother to question the witnesses called by Wilders’ defense attorney. It gave clear way to the defense attorney of Wilders, in other words, and hereby facilitated a new platform for the spread of the lying poison for which Wilders was supposed to be on trial!
Based on all of this the only possible conclusion is: the trial against Wilders is a complete joke. Full of pride, Wilders already imagined that because of the trial he could claim for himself the status of ‘martyr for freedom of speech’. But the process proceedings make it clear that in his crusade against Islam and the Muslims he is well backed by the Dutch government. Everything possible is done to pevent him being bothered by Dutch law, such that the crusade against Islam and the Muslims can proceed without any hindrance.
And this is the irony in the whole matter. For on the one hand Wilders and the Dutch state call upon the Muslims to not just respect Dutch law, but to also agree with these laws. This, namely, is the essence of the integration policy of the Dutch state: that the Muslims leave the belief in Allah (swt) as the sole lawmaker and in the correctness of the Islamic laws, and trade in this belief for belief in man as the lawmaker and in the correctness of man-made laws. But at the same time Wilders and th Dutch state ignore the man-made laws that are applied in the Netherlands!
That is why the trial against Wilders is a nothing less than a complete joke that only embarrasses Wilders and the Dutch state in the eyes of the whole world.

* The following comments by Wilders have been left out of the case against him:
Regarding the law banning the call for hatred on the basis of religious affiliation: “If Muslims want to stay here, they will have to tear out half of the Quran and throw that away.”
Regarding the law banning the call for hatred on the basis of religious affiliation, and the law banning calls for violence: “The way we deal with Islam and the Muslims in The Netherland must therefore become less casual. (…) The analysis is clear, in Islam we have a big problem, also in The Netherlands. (…) Immigration from Muslim nations must be made illegal. We must learn to be intolerant against those who are intolerant, on the street, in the mosque and in court. We must answer hate and violence with exclusion and intolerance and we must show who is boss in the Netherlands.”
Regarding the law banning calls for violence: “If it ever comes to ethnic clashes, which I really do not want, then this would not necessarily be a bad thing.”
