London 22nd December 2010 : The disclosure through WikiLeaks that the UK government has been training the paramilitary group Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Bangladesh in so called ‘investigative interviewing techniques’ and ‘rules of engagement’ is another reminder of the hypocrisy of the West’s foreign policy in the Muslim lands.
Whilst the British government trumpets slogans of human rights, freedom and democracy it has been supporting and training an organisation reknowned as a ‘government death squad’!
The RAB is notorious in Bangladesh for its torture and extrajudicial killings. It serves no purpose other than fulfilling the ruling Awami League’s policy of curbing political dissent by any means possible.
Since the Awami League assumed power in 2009 the country has seen hundreds of political activists arrested, tortured and incarcerated without charge or trial. It has turned Bangladesh into a fascist state.
Taji Mustafa, media representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain said “The UK, US and Indian governments have justified their support of the Awami League’s policies of brutal repression, using the excuse of the war on terror, in order to secure their interests in the country.”
“Hizb ut-Tahrir in Bangladesh has been at the forefront of exposing these policies and atrocities. Hizb ut-Tahrir is well known globally for its political activism and its method of non-violent political struggle against the tyrants in the Muslim world. Despite this the fascist Awami League has banned the party from conducting its political programme and kept its spokesman Mohiuddin Ahmed, a senior lecturer in Dhaka University, behind bars for over a year without any charge or trial.”
“The British government’s support of this regime comes as no surprise, for similar policies have been pursued by London and Washington in the Arab world and Central Asia.”
“Such leaks only reinforce the political call of Hizb ut-Tahrir in the Muslim world. The only way to free the Muslim world from the clutches of this colonialism is to remove these tin pot regimes in Muslim countries that do the bidding of these colonial powers.”
