London, UK , May 16 – The US government?s decision to restore full diplomatic links with Libya's military junta is yet another shocking example of the hypocritical stance of western governments in relation to the dictatorships of the Muslim world. Since signing up to Bush and Blair's 'war on terror' and giving up the pursuit of nuclear weapons, Colonel Gaddafi has come to be regarded as Bush and Blair's ally in their 'war on terror'. This is despite the fact that Colonel Gaddafi's military junta has wielded power with an iron fist, silenced political dissent and unlawfully detained and murdered many opponents of his regime.
Imran Waheed, a media representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, said, "The US government?s restoration of full diplomatic relations with the Libyan military junta shows the close relationship between the dictators of the Muslim world who are united in silencing political dissent, oppressing their own people and subservience to imperialist foreign powers."
"There was a time not so long ago when Western governments called Gadaffi the same names they called Saddam Hussain ? terrorist, tyrant, threat and dictator. In contrast to the West's treatment of Saddam, Gadaffi has clearly been endorsed in his thirty seventh year of dictatorship. The cosying relationship with Gaddafi is proof yet again that talk of freedom and democracy is nothing more than a smokescreen to conceal the true colonial nature of western foreign policy in the Muslim world."
"It does not escape the attention of Muslims the world over, that while Western governments crave close relationships with brutal dictators, they employ all their efforts and resources to prevent the emergence of the Islamic Caliphate which will enjoy popular support and free the Muslim world from subservience to imperialist foreign powers."
