London, UK, October 12, 2007 – Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain strongly condemns the terrorist actions of the US military which killed 15 women and children near Lake Tharthar, Iraq – in the name of spreading freedom and democracy. It is perverse that this latest terrorist atrocity was perpetrated on the same day that a vote in the US Congress labelled the killing of Armenians in Eastern Turkey genocide, whilst the US in Iraq is actively engaged in a genocide which the Lancet last year estimated as leading to the death of over 650,000 Iraqi civilians.
Dr Imran Waheed, a media representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, said, "The continued occupation of Iraq and abuse of ordinary Iraqis at the hands of western armies is indicative of western foreign policy that terrorises innocent people. Is this what politicians mean by liberation? Western governments seem intent on maintaining their stance which justifies innocent blood spilled in order to maintain control in the region. They pretend to value human life by marking the deaths of Armenians nearly a century ago. In reality, when it comes to their interests, human life is cheap."
