Around 200 supporters of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad gathered in the courtyard of the Al-Omari Mosque in Beirut while around 200 opponents organized by Hizb ut-Tahrir gathered inside the mosque, the National News Agency reported.
Security and army forces separated the protestors from each other, the report added.
According to human rights activists, at least 1,100 people have been killed and 10,000 others arrested since the revolt against Assad’s regime began mid-March.
