وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
“And We have not sent you [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.” (Surah Al-Anbiya: 107)
Ramadan and its blessings are upon us once again; a month of guidance and reflection, the month when the glorious Qur’an was revealed. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala did not reveal the noble Qur’an merely for recitation or self perfection, but rather as a mercy upon mankind, to change societies, to be implemented over peoples and govern their affairs according to its guidance. The Qur’an was revealed to RasulAllah sallalahu alaihi wa sallam at a time when from Makkah to Medina and beyond there was nothing but darkness, and societies were plagued with hypocrisy, poverty, injustice and tyranny, with the elites controlling the wealth and ruling without any accountability.
Today, from Kyiv to Kabul and beyond it is no different. Humanity is once again witnessing recurring hypocrisy, blooming poverty levels, soaring prices, and elites making decisions in the interests of the rich and powerful. All this is happening while the masses sink in a swamp of injustice and oppression, with the elites providing token gestures to avert protests and demonstrations against their neglect and disregard for human affairs.
At a time when humanity is facing crisis on multiple fronts, the blessed month of Ramadan comes as a reminder to us all. In addition to individual self-reflection and improvement to get closer to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, which is much needed in a materialistic society, we must reflect over the verses of the Qur’an to realise that there is a significant contradiction between what we recite and hear during the congregational prayers, and what we see happening in the world today.
RasulAllah sallalahu alaihi wa sallam was sent as a mercy to mankind. Yet this mercy is missing in the world, with capitalism oppressing the masses, resulting in the poor getting poorer and the rich getting richer. Even the Muslim lands that are blessed with resources are sinking in economic misery and injustice because the elites implement the foreign capitalist systems and care for nothing other than the interests of their foreign backers and their own bank accounts.
Racism and nationalism continue to cause hate and strife, rupturing societies and fuelling conflicts around the world. The rise of right-wing parties in Europe is causing ethnic minorities to live in fear and question their future in the West. The ugly face of nationalism has been deployed to cover the failings of Western nations around the world, with governments resorting to attacking minorities at times of economic crises and shifting blame from their failed economic policies. The mercy of Islam does not consider skin colour nor utilises race for expedient ends. It does not take into consideration nationalistic borders and falsely created national identities which have divided the Ummah and caused misery for minorities around the World.
The Russia-Ukraine conflict has clearly displayed the hypocrisy and double standards of the West. The same West which used to market itself as a bastion of human rights, and upholder of fair and universal principles, now stands utterly exposed. The atrocities committed in the Muslim world have never received the coverage of those carried out by Russia in Ukraine, even though the deaths, destruction, and displacement far exceed what we have seen in the present conflict.
During this blessed month, we ask the Muslim community to do the following:
- Raise your hands to ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to grant us the Khilafah which will bring justice and liberate the oppressed around the globe.
- Join the global call for the Khilafah by continuing to:
a) Expose the hypocrisy of the West and the rulers of the Muslim world.
b) Be a voice for the voiceless in the Muslim world, and for those who are silenced for speaking the truth.
c) Speak to your relatives and raise awareness of the Khilafah highlighting the fruits it will bring to humanity, both Muslims and Non-Muslims.
- Do not be silenced living in the West by the false narratives the government and the media want to peddle, whether they are about the “more civilised Ukrainian refugees”, or how supporting the plight of Muslims in Palestine and Kashmir is tantamount to “terrorism.”
We pray that Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala allows us to reap the rewards of this blessed month, to improve ourselves, increase our efforts to defend Islam, and to re-establish the Khilafah that will lead humanity from the darkness of man-made systems to the Light of Islam. Ameen.
