For 92 years, ever since the destruction of the Khilafah in 1924 at the hands of the colonialists, the Muslim world from Morocco to Indonesia has been completely dominated by the West. Despite the Muslim world possessing huge strategic resources, a large and youthful population and a culture that had previously dominated the world, today the West controls the economic development, militarily capability and sovereignty of the Muslim lands.
100 years ago the French, British and Russians were carving up the Middle East in the Sykes-Picot agreement, and nations were created from thin air to divide the Muslim world. Just a few years after this agreement they abolished the Khilafah and removed the Islamic authority that united the Ummah.
However, their great plots and plans have met with nothing but failure – highlighting a clear contradiction between the agent rulers of the Muslim world and the people. The rulers remain sincere to the west upholding these fake borders by the dictate of the colonialists. Unlike the Ummah, who has come to the firm conviction that these borders do nothing but divide her. It’s clear from Syria to Palestine or wherever Muslims suffer, that Muslims from different countries rally to help them. They no longer see these imposed lines of division as an identity but are purely motivated from the Islamic belief to alleviate any oppression Muslims face.
In the Muslim world, Colonialism has created nothing but misery. Much of the Muslim world suffers from the crimes of incompetent rulers who are more loyal to Washington, London or Paris than they are to their own people. The vast wealth of the Muslim world sits in the financial markets and corporations of the West rather than in domestic economic development or infrastructure modernisation. The scholars, thinkers and active politicians of the Muslim world languish in the prisons of the rulers.
Western values have not just been a failure in the Muslim world but have created misery in the wider world. Oxfam in its annual wealth report recently confirmed just 68 individuals own over half of the world’s wealth, which is more than the poorest 3 billion people combined. The poverty gap has increased, economic injustice prevails and politicians cater only to the affairs of the rich and powerful.
The Ummah’s desire for change, from the Indian subcontinent, to the Middle East, Africa and Asia has become the bane of the capitalists, and this is what gives Western governments sleepless nights. The best they can come up with is to try to malign the Khilafah by linking it to a militia that only aids their interests. They also hope that attacks on our deen, tough legal measures and travel bans will intimidate Muslims into silence.
The Khilafah Rashidah is a mercy to mankind as a whole and not just the Muslims. It offers the world an alternative system of governance, economic justice and spiritual fulfilment in place of the current materialistic and individualistic ideology. The Khilafah will possess an economy built upon fulfilling the needs of people and wealth distribution, rather than merely increasing GDP and leaving wealth distribution to the market. The Khilafah has a long and successful track record of uniting different peoples and managing their affairs, far longer than that of the nation state model, which empowers the dominant ethnic groups and stigmatises minorities. The Khilafah values the family and places it at the centre of society, rather than the individualism found in the west that destroys families.
We pray for Allah (swt) to bless us with His shade and with the Khilafah Rashidah, and pray that we become the people who show the world that there is an alternative to the misery Capitalism has created. It is not Khilafah that will cause chaos but rather the continual implementation of global capitalism, which has presided over mankind’s regression, inequality and a downward spiral in all facets of human life.
Allah has promised those who have believed among you and done righteous deeds that He will surely grant them succession [to authority] upon the earth just as He granted it to those before them and that He will surely establish for them [therein] their religion which He has preferred for them and that He will surely substitute for them, after their fear, security, [for] they worship Me, not associating anything with Me. But whoever disbelieves after that – then those are the defiantly disobedient. (TMQ Sourat un-Nour, v55)
