WikiLeaks, US war on Pakistan and betrayal of Muslim rulers Part 2

WikiLeaks shows how successive Pakistan rulers totally surrendered affairs of government.

This is Part 2 of a reader’s contribution: There may be nothing new about the betrayal and corruption of our rulers in Pakistan however WikiLeaks exposes the extent with which they have completely submitted to US plans.

The Economy

The cables expose a lack of thinking and policy from the Pakistan government. It seems that America is developing the economic policies for Pakistan by holding workshops with the Pakistan government.

For example the following cable discusses the energy situation in Pakistan:

The session opened with an overview by the GOP (Government of Pakistan) of the energy situation in Pakistan. Noting that only ten percent of the sector is privatised. xxxxxxxxxxxx remarked that privatization is expected to be increased to 60 percent over the next ten years and that a 40 percent increase in prices has recently been passed to the public. Stating that the GOP wants to add 16,000 megawatts by 2015 with USD 30 billion of investment, xxxxxxxxxxxx noted this was approximately USD 3 billion per year, with 2 billion from the private sector and 1 billion from the public sector. He said Pakistan is planning road shows in the U.S. and Southeast Asia to secure these investments, with emphasis on coal and hydro-power development.

Noting that the U.S. is willing to fund a comprehensive geological mapping survey, which could be very beneficial for the domestic energy sector, Sullivan asked the GOP to move forward with approval of the U.S. Geological Survey offer. (CableID- VZCZCXRO1613)

Pakistan urgently needs to address the Energy situation, it seems that the only solution that can be advocated is privatise the sector which will lead to nothing but looting of the Energy resource of the country. Whenever electricity or any of the energy industry has been privatised it has led to short term profits to the detriment of the Energy infrastructure of the country, Brazil being a good example.

The Natural resources belong to the Muslim Ummah as the Hadith of Prophet Mohammad (SAW) clearly states it is forbidden to privatise these. Pakistan does not need foreign investment, a comprehensive industrial plan will generate revenue from within.

The plan to privatise will only subjugate the economy and will leave it at the mercy of the Americans. Our rulers only know the policy of slavery while we need a policy of independence.

The fact that we are dependent on the Americans to carry out the survey to inform us of the potential resources in our lands is a sign that these rulers are nothing but agents .

The cables mention that Pakistan has a great potential for growth in the Agricultural sector, but yet again puts a dependence on the US for development: Finance Minister Qamar – He advocated strengthening the U.S.-Pakistan agricultural relationship….the integration of genetically modified seeds is critical to increasing agricultural productivity. (CableID- VZCZCXRO1613)

Politics

We don’t need the WikiLeaks to tell us that the rulers of Pakistan are inept and incapable of running the country. But the following cable does more than that: Pakistan’s president, Asif Ali Zardari, is “clearly a numbskull”, Sir Jock Stirrup, Britain’s then chief of defence staff, told visiting US officials in London two years ago. Other British officials echoed the line, with Peter Ricketts, the Foreign Office’s permanent undersecretary, characterising the Pakistani leader as having “not much sense of how to govern a country I fear he talks and talks but not much happens.”

If this is the standing of the president of the country with his own allies and masters then there is no hope for the country as long as these rulers are in power.

Nawaz shariff is no better, he has no shame in stating he is pro American and is proud of his treachery : Nawaz and Khan both repeatedly said that the PML-N was pro-American. Nawaz recounted his decision to override his Chief of Army Staff and deploy Pakistani troops to Saudi Arabia in support of the U.S. coalition in the first Gulf War. (cableID- VZCZCXRO7265)

The fate of Pakistan is determined by external forces who sit and plan in Washington, Downing Street and Riyad. What is clear is that America will use the Muslim card utilising countries like Turkey and Saudi Arabia to act as a face for the brutal policies it wishes to impose on Pakistan.

Turkish Muslim Card: The Turkish Embassy in Islamabad has taken on the task of NATO coordinator, at least on political issues, among members missions and with the GOP … He also noted Pakistani journalists and academics were being sent on study tours (similar to our International Visitors Program) to NATO headquarters in Brussels…. But with the Turks playing an increasingly high profile, constructive role in Pakistan, we will continue to develop our dialogue and find opportunities to work together in areas of mutual interest. As a moderate, progressive Muslim state featuring relatively stable, democratic governance, Turkey is well-positioned to be a much more positive role model for the Pakistanis and to neutralize somewhat the more negative influence on Pakistani politics.

Soysal met one-on-one with opposition Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif in Lahore the week of May 11. Nawaz understood the seriousness of the situation in Swat, Soysal concluded. He reported that Nawaz stated the Taliban should be eliminated. Nawaz warned, however, that Pakistan’s democracy needed to deliver soon before the public looked again to alternatives. (cableID- VZCZCXRO1821)

Since when did the Europeans accept for Turkey to take the lead on issues in NATO! This is so open and blatant that they are conducting a war against the Muslims in Afghanistan so they need a Muslim face to front that war and unashamedly Turkish rulers happily take up the task and even go further to ensure that our academics and journalists are on the same page as the rulers and their masters.

The Saudis on the other hand push more forcefully the American plan utilising their oil wealth to forward Americas foreign policy.

The Saudi Card: Al-Jubeir denied that Musharraf had come to the Kingdom to meet with exiled former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, although he carefully avoided ruling out such a meeting. Instead, he boldly asserted that, We in Saudi Arabia are not observers in Pakistan, we are participants Al-Jubeir added that he sees neither Sharif nor former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto as a viable replacement for Musharraf. With all his flaws, he said of Musharraf, he is the only person that you or we have to work with now. He claimed that Sharif would be unable to control the Pushtun-dominated Islamic insurgency in the tribal region near Afghanistan, while Bhutto would prove to be too divisive a figure to rule the country, which he characterized as overly tribal, much like our own country. (cableID- VZCZCXRO1328)

Summary

What the WikiLeaks expose is the thinking and planning behind the regime in Pakistan. They paint a picture that the secular political parties are in the pockets of the Americans and have no independent thinking and they are slowly eroding away the sovereignty of the country. The current Chief of Army Staff is no different to Musharraf and he has total confidence in his master the US.

It is a very bleak and worrying picture, but there is hope out of all of this, which lie in the Ummah and vision that the Hizb ut Tahrir is presenting.

In terms of the most critical issue at present which is security, Hizb ut-Tahrir advocate the removal of the US troops from Pakistan and their bases and agencies (CIA, FBI, Blackwater …). This can be achieved by blocking the supplies of fuels and goods to Afghanistan, the public opinion is already there to support it.

The US needs Pakistan for its war not the other way round. The US war in the region is not welcome by China, the Russians and Iran.

In terms of the economy Hizb ut-Tahrir has a clear vision on how to build Pakistan and as the documents state there is immense potential in Pakistan but currently there is no political vision.

The Hizb has that vision in the Khilafah State. We need the Ummah in Pakistan to rise and work with Hizb ut Tahrir to bring about that change while the window of opportunity still exists.
